Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday fixed August 13 for submission of the probe report in the case lodged in connection with the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
Magistrate Mohammad Erfanullah of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order yesterday (Sunday) following a petition seeking more time by the investigation officer (IO) of the case.
IO and Assistant Superintendent of Police (APS) Wares Ali Mia could not submit the probe report to the court on Sunday. So far the court deferred the date for submission of the report for 26 times.
On March 18, the present IO sought permission from the court to take charge of the investigation of the case and the court allowed him the next day to investigate into the sensational murder.
On March 16 Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate directed the prosecution to submit the progress report of the probe. IO Wares Ali said, they had already sent DNA sample of eight accused to US following an order of the court. However, he declined to make any comment on the progress of the probe without any permission of the committee formed to investigate the incident of murder.
On February 11, 2012, Maasranga TV News Editor Sagar and ATN Bangla Senior Reporter Runi were brutally killed in their rented flat in the capital’s Rajabazar area.
So far IOs of the case have been changed thrice and the present and fourth IO, Wares Ali took over the case in March.
