Rapid Action Battalion has arrested five thieves in connection with stealing garment products from Beltoly area of Cumilla sadar upazila.
Getting information, RAB-4 conducted a campaign in the area on Wednesday night and arrested the five inter district highway robbers.
The arrested persons are – Himel alias Dulal (38), Abul Kalam (40), Md. Mohsin Ali alias Babu (31) and Md. Al Amin (30).
A case has been filed against them. Meanwhile, three to four other persons involved with the incident escaped during the operation.
A covered van with stealing garment products worth of about Tk four crore were also recovered during the campaign.
The arrested persons were used to steal garment products from the highway during its exporting transportations through Chittagong ports.
RAB-4 Captain (CO) DIG Md. Mozammel Haque said it in a press briefing about the issue.
He said that RAB started a shadow investigation over disappearance of about 40 pc of export oriented garment products while transporting from Gazipur to Chittagong sea port on August 14. In one stage, they found that a gang of thieves are behind such incidents. The police filed a case against those persons.
