The elite force RAB has arrested two people along with hundreds of illegal walkie-talkies from different areas of the capital city.
RAB-3 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed said this at a press conference at RAB Media Center at Kawranbazar on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, RAB-3 and BTRC conducted a joint operation and arrested the two, including the ringleader, for selling illegal walkie-talkie sets in different parts of the capital.
During the drive, huge quantities of illegal walkie-talkie sets and parts were recovered from them.
Captain Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed said, “Some unscrupulous traders have been selling black walkie-talkie sets to criminals for a long time in different parts of the capital in the hope of making more profit.” But according to the BTRC guidelines, the use of black walkie-talkie sets by any organization or individual other than a government organization is a punishable offense. The two arrested were identified as Md. Abdullah Al Sabbir, 33, and his associates Al Mamun, 26.
According to the RAB, a total of 168 walkie-talkies, 35 walkie-talkie batteries, 32 chargers, 63 antennas, 6 mouth speakers and 6 back clips were recovered from the stadium market in Gulistan. The frequency of these recovered Wakitki sets is 245-246 MHz.
These walkie-talkies can be used to communicate up to half a kilometer without a repeater. It is also possible to communicate from the upper floor to the lower floor of a multi-storey building. These walkie-talkies cost taka 5,000 to taka 50,000.
The RAB-3 commander said, “The common people of the country consider the person carrying the walkie-talkie as a member of the law enforcement forces.” Using this opportunity, criminals have been committing serious crimes including robbery, road robbery, snatching and kidnapping under the guise of fake DB, RAB, DGFI, NSI members.
On the one hand, this is tarnishing the image of the law enforcement agencies and on the other, when the real members of the law enforcement agencies are going on duty in white clothes, the common people are thinking that they are members of the fake law enforcement agencies.
This is creating a kind of misunderstanding. Law enforcement will also face obstacles in identifying the culprits if they organize the crime by communicating with each other through walkie-talkies, which is a threat to overall security.
