Staff Reporter :
Family members of sacked army Lt Col and ex-Commanding Officer (CO) of Rapid Action Battalion-7 (RAB-7) Hasinur Rahman have alleged that people posing as detectives whisked him away from in front of his house at Mirpur DOHS in Dhaka on Wednesday night.
Hasinur, who also worked with the RAB-5, and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), was sacked in 2010 from the post of TAB-7 on charge of involvement with the banned Hijbut Tahrir.
He was jailed for five years on charge of sedition and freed in 2014.
People wearing Detective Branch (DB) of Police jackets picked up Hasinur from Pallabi around 10:00pm on Wednesday just after he left the house to visit a friend, said his brother-in-law Wakil Ahmed.
Wakil said that he was ‘almost certain’ that the people were police detectives. No DB official agreed to comment on the issue when the family members contacted with them.
“We’ve heard that Hasinur Rahman has been whisked away,” said Pallabi Police Station Inspector Moinul Kabir .
Hasinur was attached with the Army Training and Doctrine Command when he lost his job after being charged with sedition.
Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam said that he was informed about the picking up of the ex- Army officer by some plain clothes men.
“So far as I know, he was allegedly involved with the militancy. The issue is being investigated,” the OC said.
But DB rejected the allegation made by the family of Hasinur Rahman.
Shamima Rahman, wife of the missing victim, said that DB men picked up her husband in a microbus around 10:30pm on Wednesday.
Following the incident, we rushed to the Pallabi Police Station to file a General Dairy regarding the matter. But she was refused to register a GD in this connection, she claimed.
