Newly appointed Commanding Officer of RAB-11 Lt Col Anwar Latif Khan took over charge on Friday.An order was issued from Rab headquarters on Thursday evening in this regard.Lt Col Anwar, who was the CO of RAB-5, replaced CO Lt Col Tareq Sayeed Mohammad as he was dismissed along with two other officers-Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander SM Masud Rana-for their alleged involvement in the abductions and killings of seven people, including Narayanganj City panel mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker.Two days after the abductions in Narayanganj, the Home Ministry withdrew the commanding officer of RAB-11 and three police officials. Later, two more RAB officials were withdrawn.Later, Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad and Maj Arif Hossain were removed from Bangladesh Army, while Lt Commander SM Masud Rana from Bangladesh Navy.On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30.
