Eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain on Tuesday said, the ongoing students’ movement demanding reform of the existing quota system in civil service is a logical one, and blasted the people who branded the quota reformists as Razakars’ children.
“The quota reform activists are not the children of Razakars rather they are the sons of the soil,” said Dr Kamal, President of Gono Forum, while addressing a programme at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday. The people who are doing businesses in the name of the Liberation War have forgotten the spirit of those who sacrificed their lives during the country’s war for independence he said.
Claiming that freedom fighters are being undermined and their spirit is being misinterpreted deliberately, Dr Kamal said, “Our sons are engaged in the movement with their logical proposal.”
Claiming that the attacks on the quota reform activists is a matter of shame, he said.
The agitated students have been waging movement only to meet their demand for reformation of the existing quota system.
“Bangabandhu and Tajuddin Ahmed did not sacrifice their lives to enjoy the assets of the state,” Dr Kamal said, adding that they did not compromise their ideology and principle.
He underscored the need for forging a unity in a bid to protect the country and its people.
