DU Correspondent :
Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) on Tuesday said, the students’ movement for revising current quota system is logical and called upon the government to reform this system within May 7.
They demanded arrest of the culprits, who engineered the brutal attack on the vc’s residence. They said this at a human chain programme at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla protesting Sunday’s brutal attack on DU VC’s residence.
Terming the attack as pre-meditated occurrence, speakers said, some unidentified persons, who were not associated with the quota reforming agitation vandalized the VC’s residence with evil design.
Professor Sadeka Halim said, students have democratic rights to demand quota, reform as millions of educated students are jobless in the country right now. But we cannot support violence that will create unstable situation on the campus.
Professor Samad said, there are no relation between the quota reformation movement and the attack on DU VC and added a vested quarter is trying to foil this movement. He demanded exemplary punishment to the attackers and said they will prevent such activities in future.
President of DUTA Professor ASM Maqsud Kamal urged the government to reform the quota system within schedule time (May 7). He also said, “We will suggest some recommendations to government in this regard”.
Bitterly denouncing the DU VC’s residence attack, Professor Kamal said, a vested quarter is trying to mar the congenial atmosphere of DU in the name of quota reformation. He termed this attack as a political motivated incident.”
