UNB, Dhaka :The High Court on Thursday asked the police to interrogate Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna at the jail gate, if needed, in a sedition case filed with Gulshan Police Station.An HC bench comprising Justice M Rezaul Haque and Justice M Khasruzzaman passed the order disposing of a writ petition filed by Manna challenging his remand.Adv Shahdeen Malik stood for Manna, while deputy attorney general Fazlur Rahman Khan represented the state during the hearing. Talking toreporters, adv Malik said the HC cancelled Manna’s remand order by a lower court and asked the authorities to quiz Manna at the jail gate, if necessary.On March 8, Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ataul Haque put Manna on a 10-day remand in the sedition case. Later, Manna’s lawyer filed a writ with the HC challenging the legality of the remand.On August 19, the HC issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why Manna’s remand would not be declared illegal and unlawful.On March 5, a sedition case was filed against Mahmudur Rahman Manna and BNP Vice-Chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka in connection with the leaked ‘telephonic conversation’ between the two leaders.Sohel Rana, a sub-inspector of the police station, filed the case against him Under Section 131 of the Penal Code.Earlier, on February 24, plainclothes police picked Manna up from a Banani house in the city.Later, on February 25, Rapid Acton Battalion (RAB) confirmed Manna’s arrest and handed him over to the Gulshan Police Station.
