“Making money illegally by leaking question papers was the family business of Directorate General of Health Education (DGHE)’s machine operator
Abdus Salam.” CID Senior ASP (media) Jisanul Haque Jisan said to The New Nation.
Jisanul Haque Jisan said that many of the families of Salam and Jashim have built mountains of wealth. Salam’s cousins, aunts, uncles, and all relatives are active members of the question paper leak ring.
Salam’s cousin Jasim has 36 bank accounts, with an amount of about Tk half a crore. Jasim’s wife Shilpi has 14 bank accounts with Tk 10 crore. ‘
The cyber division of the CID arrested Abdus Salam on Monday (October 5) in a raid in the Banasree area of the capital. He is now on 5-day remand.
According to Criminal Investigation Department sources, Question paper leaker Abdus Salam had a weakness for land since childhood.
But it was difficult to buy land doing a small job like a machine man in the health education bureau. So he was ready to do anything.
With that goal, Abdus Salam, a machine man, chose leaking the question while printing the question papers for the admission test in the Medical and Dental College in 2006. Every year, crores of Taka were earned by leaking the questions of medical admission test. With that money he had bought a lot of properties.
Jisanul Haque Jisan said machineman Abdus Salam has huge land holdings in Dhaka, Savar and Manikganj. Within hours of his arrest, we received information of about 100 bighas of land. More of his land has been traced. Papers have been sent to the concerned places to be sure.
CID officials said the matter came to light in 2006 after the question was leaked. At that time the admission test was postponed in the first phase. A five-member committee was also formed from the Ministry of Health.
Salam was involved with the leak of the then Director General of the Department of Health Education. Sefat Ullah removed the question from the printing machine.
Due to this, Salam could not leak the question in 2007 and 2008. But in 2009, under an influential minister, he returned to the post of machine man in the printing press. From then on, he used to leak medical questions every year.
Sources said that the Department of Health Education used to select a press under the Ministry of Health every year for the admission test of medical colleges. No one except certain members of the department’s question paper making committee was allowed to travel there.
However, a machine man and an associate were hired to operate the printing press. From 2009 to 2015, Salam worked as a machineman every year. On this occasion, Salam leaked the question and gave it to his cousin Jasim in exchange for a large sum of money.
The CID official said, “We have found the source of their assets. Following the search of the property, a case will be filed against everyone in this cycle under the Money Laundering Act. At the same time, an application will be made ready to confiscate the money and properties earned by leaking the question and take it into government custody. ‘
CID senior ASP (media) Jisanul Haque Jisan told to The New Nation, “We have remanded Salam for five days. We will be able to know more about his land and other property during the interrogation.
CID Special Superintendent of Police Ashraful Alam told to The New Nation, We have received some information. Many smart and wealthy people and big key players are involved with the cycle of question paper leaks. After investigation, we want to catch them.
