Visiting Queen of the Netherlands Maxima Zorreguieta Cerruti made a courtesy call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Thursday.
During the meeting, the President highlighted the success of Bangladesh in poverty alleviation through micro-credit, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.
Queen Maxima Zorreguieta Cerruti praised the micro-credit activities of Bangladesh and said the success of Bangladesh in alleviating poverty through micro-credit is praiseworthy.
Abdul Hamid told the Queen, also the UN Secretary General’s special advocate for inclusive finance for development, that RMG sector has also played important role in empowering the country’s women.
The Queen highly appreciated the government’s steps for empowering women and hoped that the success would continue in future.
Mentioning the negative impact of climate change in Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid informed her about the government’s initiatives to mitigate the problems caused by climate change.
Bangladesh and the Netherlands have unique geographic similarities in terms of the presence of a large deltaic coastline, observed the President and said that Bangladesh can be benefited by utilizing the experience of the Netherlands.
He also highlighted the steps of Bangladesh to implement Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
