Food Minister Quamrul Islam on Monday said he will decide on whether to file a review petition after getting the full copy of the Supreme Court verdict that fined him Tk 50,000 over his controversial comments about Chief Justice SK Sinha in connection with the war crimes case against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali.The Food Minister came up with the decision while talking to the reporters at the Secretariat.Replying to a question about filing a review petition against the SC order, Quamrul said “I am also a lawyer and I have my opinion. After getting the full text of the verdict I will take further decision in this regard.”Meanwhile, the Law Minister Anisul Haq said the SC order is not related to the breaching of oath and there is nothing related to violation of constitution. Responding to a question about the resignation of the two ministers, the Law Minister said “Resignation is a matter of their own choice.”Earlier, the Supreme Court on Sunday fined ministers Qamrul Islam and AKM Mozammel Huq Tk 50,000 each for their controversial comments about Chief Justice SK Sinha in connection with the war crimes case against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali.The ministers will have to suffer seven days’ jail in default of the payment of the fine, the order said.Qamrul and Mozammel had demanded resignation of the Chief Justice, and reconstitution of an Appellate Division bench, for his reported remarks regarding the prosecution’s performance in the trial of Mir Quasem Ali. They made the demands at a round-table discussion organised by Ekatorrer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee in the city on March 5. During the hearing of arguments on Mir Quasem Ali’s appeal petition on February 23, the Chief Justice purportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the activities of the prosecution and the investigation agency. On March 14, ministers Qamrul Islam and Mozammel Huq offered unconditional apology to the court for their remarks.
