Quality seed, modern tech for rice cultivation stressed

There is no alternative to using quality seed, modern technologies and organic fertilizers for enhancing rice production under adverse climate to alleviate poverty and attain food security, speakers said on Monday.
They were addressing a ceremony arranged for distribution of high yielding BRRI dhan 34 rice seed by World Vision Bangladesh (WVB) under its Fulbari Area Development Programme (ADP) at Betdighee union parishad hall room in Fulbari upazila.
A total of 400-kg of high quality BRRI dhan 34 variety rice seed were distributed among 100 poor and extremely poor farmers, with four kg each, of Aladipur, Eluari, Kazihal and Betdighee unions under Fulabri upazila in the ceremony.
The seed were distributed to inspire the farmers in expanding rice cultivation to increase production of more hygienic rice for meeting nutrition of their own family members, including children, alleviate poverty and improve livelihoods.
With Programme Officer of Fulbari ADP of WVB Badal Sangma in the chair, its Agriculture Officer Arbindu Roy attended and addressed the ceremony and distributed the rice seed as the chief guest.
President of Betdighee Mohona Mohila Unnayan Forum Mrs. Ferdous Zannat, Agriculture Facilitator of Fulbari ADP of WVB Menhaz Uddin and its Value Chain Supervisor Rawshan Jamil addressed as the special guests.

Roy elaborately narrated the importance of expanded cultivation of high yielding variety rice adopting the latest and modern agriculture technologies to get enhanced rice production.
Earlier, the NGO conducted two-day training courses for these farmers in eight batches last month to provide practical knowledge on modern technologies to increase production of hygienic rice, combating pests’ attacks and use of organic pesticides and fertilizers. In their speeches, the speakers said there is no alternative to using quality seed and adoption of the modern agriculture technologies for increasing rice output at lower costs and maintaining environmental and ecological balance in the nature.
