Commercial quail bird farming is getting popular at different areas under Rangpur district as it has proved lucrative in recent years. A good number of unemployed youths in the district are now making good profits by farming quails and selling the quail eggs and meatSources said that less investment as well as quick returns has made commercial quail farming a flourishing business in the region.
Mizanur Rahman, an unemployed youth at village Kachna Hazipara of Ikorchali union in Taraganj Upazila under the district said that he has attained financial solvency by quail farming. After completing masters in Zoology he started quail farming instead of looking for job, he said. He could alleviate the curse of unemployment by farming quail within six months, he also said.
Now there are 500 quail birds at his farm. Of them around 350 bids lay eggs daily. He sells 100 pieces of egg at Tk 200. He gets around Tk 700 per day from selling the quail eggs while Tk 300 to Tk 350 is spent for feed and maintenance cost every day, he said.Witnessing his success many other unemployed youths of his area and adjacent areas have shown their interest in quail farming, he added. District livestock officer Shahjalal Khandkar said many people of the region are involved in the business of quail farming that requires relatively less investment and small space.
