Quagmire in JU development project

An ominous paw has been obstructing the ongoing development project of Jahangirnagar University (JU).
It’s been alleged that an evil group is trying to control the second phase of JU’s development project as they want to bag their share by making corruption in the prject.
The complaint has been raised against the pro-government student organization and the JU’s engineering department.
It’s been said that the pro-government student organization has asked their share from the project in the name of the organization central leaders.
On the other hand, a group of dishonest engineers and officials of University’s engineering department has been backing the student organization to control the project and confirm their share.
Following the development project, in second phase about 14 projects are going to be inaugurated by the newly appointed vice chancellor Professor Md Nurul Alam on May 26.
In the second phase, the government gave a total of Tk. 800 crore for the construction of above mentioned projects.
When contracted over the allegation, few of the pro government student organization central leaders have denied the complaints saying that they have no information about the matter.
Seeking anonymity one of central leader said that just as the Prime Minister has overcame all obstacles and implemented the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, the student body will be tougher and tougher in order to maintain the continuity of development protect and the educational environment in every educational institutions in the country.
He further said that the organization will not take the responsibility of any person.
It is to be mentioned that the government has allocated Tk. 1,445 crore for the varsity under a mega project. The allocation, which is the biggest ever for a public university, was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) to construct six student dormitories, academic building, graduate research house, lecture theatre, exam hall, residential quarters for the staff and faculty members, and other infrastructure on the campus.
During the first phase, the government gave a total of Tk. 480 crore for the construction of five dormitories.
Meanwhile, it is known that in the first phase of the university’s development project, six halls (three each male and female students) would be constructed. Each of the 10-storied halls would have a capacity to house 1,000 students. The budget for each hall has been fixed at around Tk. 65 crore.
The then Bangladesh Chhatra League President and General Secretary demanded “4 to 6 percent” in cuts from a Tk 1,445-crore project.
