Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday sought assistance from China to make agree the neighbouring Myanmar to build Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM) economic corridor.
“It is necessary to build a two-kilometer road to implement the BCIM economic corridor. We are interested in doing so and need support from Myanmar.”
“But they are not extending cooperation. So, we need help from China to make them agree to this end,” he said while paying courtesy call to a delegation of the Chinese Communist Party at Surma Hall of the Sonargaon Hotel here.
Bangladeshi delegation, headed by Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, held one-hour meeting with the Chinese delegation, headed by Wang Yajun, Assistant Minister of International Department of Communist Party of China, who arrived here last night on an invitation of the ruling AL.
During the meeting, Quader recalled the contribution of China to the infrastructure development of Bangladesh, saying, “Bangladesh has relations with many countries.”
“But, none of the countries come forward to this end as we are going to get assistance from China to construct the 9th Chinese Bridge at the fag end of building the 8th Chinese bridge. Chinese Exim Bank has expressed its desire to build tunnel under the Karnaphuli river.”
Recalling the recent visit of the AL delegation to China on the invitation of the Communist Party of China, he said, “I didn’t go to China as I was busy due to Rohingya influx, but I have interest to visit China in the days to come.”
Among others, AL Advisory Council Member Ambassador Mohammad Zameer, presidium member Col (retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan, joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, organizing secretary barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud.
