BSS, Dhaka :
Expressing dissatisfaction over deterioration of services in BRTC buses, road transport and bridge minister Obaidul Quader said corruption and irregularities mainly are responsible for such a situation.
The minister urged the officials and employees of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) to come forward together to stop corruption and improve the standard of services in their public buses.
He said this on Friday while speaking at the opening session of a workshop for government officials at BIAM auditorium here. BIAM Director General Fazlul Haq presided over the opening session while secretary of the road transport ministry MAN Siddique and secretary (coordination and reform of the cabinet division) Md Nazrul Islam, among other, addressed it.
Obaidul Quader said services of BRTC buses are not up to the mark as most of the buses have no light, fan and passengers often complain about littering of dirty materials inside the buses. He asked the BRTC officials to give priority to the interest of the people, not to their personal ones.
The minister asked officials concerned to take necessary steps to ensure the safe journey of the home-bound people ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. “If any road needs any repairing you have to do it right now because Eid celebration will take place just after the rainy season,” he added.
