Awami League Secretary General and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has asked party leaders and activists to stay united ahead of the national election at the end of this year, forgetting intra-party feuds.
The minister made the
request while holding street campaign at Eliotganj area in Daudkandi’s Chandina Bazar when he was on his way to Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar. Quader said the party will prioritise those party activists who sacrifice for the party in this year’s nominations and urged them not to form ‘pocket committees’.
“Assess which activists stick by you in difficult times, do not corner them. The opportunists will disappear once the wind changes.” “There are so many candidates everywhere. It is not a problem to run as a candidate. But do not delve into dirty competition. Don’t beg our party activists. Do not publicise our intra-party conflicts.”
The secretary general also instructed party leaders and activists to be prepared for violent efforts to halt the election, as in 2014.
He said, “BNP leaders have announced tougher protest, but I will ask how they will arrange it within a month as the party has been unable hold any protest for even 10 minutes in the past decade. Years after year has passed, but the protests never come.”
