XINHUA, Beirut :
Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said Tuesday that Qatar is ready to create a “comprehensive economic program” to help Lebanon overcome economic crisis only if Lebanon forms a cabinet, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported.
“There should be an independent cabinet in Lebanon which would allow Qatar to coordinate with it on any upcoming economic programs,” he said in a press conference following his meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace.
The Qatari official said his visit aimed at conveying a message of support for the Lebanese population by encouraging authorities to put aside personal interests and form a cabinet that would serve the country’s interests.
He also explained that Qatar usually does not offer direct financial aid but it implements projects that can benefit the Lebanese population and create a difference for the country’s economy.
The Qatari official arrived in Lebanon on Tuesday on an official visit to meet with Lebanese top officials in an attempt to end the governmental deadlock in the country.
He also met with House Speaker Nabih Berri and Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab.
