A male student at South East University has been arrested over the blackmail and rape of a female student at a different private university.
Accused Rafid Sadman, 25, was arrested from his residence in Banani, Dhaka, on Monday, said Cantonment police station Sub-Inspector Shyamol Ahmed.
Police produced Rafid before a Dhaka court seeking seven days’ remand, the SI added.
Earlier on Monday, the rape survivor’s father filed a case with the police station over the incident.
According to the case statement, Rafid and the survivor became acquainted in October last year and met on several occasions.

At a meeting on October 30, Rafid slipped a sedative into her drink and took her to his home, where he took explicit video footage of her while she was unconscious. When the female student
regained consciousness, Rafid used the explicit video to blackmail and rape her.
Over the next several months, the accused raped the survivor by using the blackmail video on multiple occasions.
The survivor’s father filed the case over the incident when she told him about her ordeal, SI Shyamol said.
