Introducing them as detectives, muggers took away Tk 1.80 lakh from a private trading company official in the city’ s Dhanmondi area on Tuesday.
Talking to UNB, SM Jawaid, commercial manager of Mikhail, a food products importer, said he withdrew Tk 1.80 lakh from Islami Bank Bangladesh branch at Road-6/A in Dhanmondi at about 10:15 am.
When he was walking towards Dutch-Bangla Bank branch at Dhanmondi Road-8/A to deposit the money, a white coloured microbus intercepted him near fast food shop KFC at about 10:45 am, he said.
The miscreants took him on the microbus posing as members of Detective Branch of police, handcuffed him and beat him.
Later, the gangsters dropped him behind Sohrawardy Hospital at Sher-e-Banglanagar at about 11:45am after snatching his money.
A case was filed with Dhanmondi police station in connection with the incident.
