Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting of the Supervisory Board of the Russia 2018 Local Organizing Committee in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Thursday.
According to the Kremlin press service, the meeting will focus on the readiness of stadiums and other infrastructure facilities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, which will kick off on June 14.
It is also planned to discuss issues related to transport, medical and information support of the tournament.
The Russian president is also expected to visit the World Cup fan passport center and get acquainted with the reconstruction of the Fisht stadium, which will host a series of matches during the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
Putin’s meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino is planned as well. The head of state is keeping a close eye on preparations for the tournament and holds regular meetings with Infantino as part of this work.
Their previous meeting took place in Moscow in February, while last year Putin and Infantino met to discuss preparations for the FIFA World Cup in May, September and December. They also took part in the opening ceremony of the FIFA Confederations Cup in St.Petersburg last June.
In late April, Alexey Sorokin, the Director General of the 2018 World Cup Russia Local Organizing Committee, told TASS that FIFA will certainly be pleased that all 12 stadiums of the 2018 World Cup are ready for matches.
The last stadium put into operation in the run-up to the tournament was Samara-Arena, which received FIFA’s permission last Friday.
Russia selected 11 host cities to be the venues for the matches of the 2018 World Cup. They are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Samara.
The matches of the 2018 World Cup will be held between June 14 and July 15, 2018, at 12 stadiums located in the 11 above-mentioned cities across Russia.
Two of the stadiums are located in the Russian capital.
