Punitive action has been taken against four policemen of Phulbari Police Station in connection with the fleeing of an accused from police custody.
Three constables-Abu Bakar Siddique, Anisur Rahman and Shahjahan Ali – were suspended while constable Zahidul Haque was closed to the district police lines on Sunday for dereliction of duty in connection with the incident, said police super Sanjoy Kumar Kundu.
Officer-in-charge of Phulbari Police Station Bazlur Rashid said Zahidul Haque, 35, son of Ajgar Ali of Purba Phulmati village, was arrested on Saturday
night in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
He, however, escaped from the police custody around 1pm on Sunday while being taken to the court from Phulbari Police Station. The four policemen were on duty during the incident.
Meanwhile, the absconding accused was again arrested three ours later.
