DSCC Mayor warns: Punishment must if commodity price hiked in Ramzan

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Muhammad Sayeed Khokon on Tuesday said that traders would be punished if they hiked commodity prices illegally during Ramzan.
“There are huge essential commodities on stock. There is no reason to increase price of goods. As such, if any traders hike price of essentials, they will face punishments,” Mayor Sayeed Khokon said this during a view exchange meeting with the businessmen in Nagar Bhaban about the price of daily necessities during the month of Ramzan.
 The mayor said, the businessmen promised to me that the commodity market would remain normal in the month of fasting.
The prices of rice, edible oil, pulses, peas, suger, flour, atta and other essential goods will remain normal.
“A section of dishonest traders frequently increase prices in the month of Ramzan. So, we have warned them not to hike prices this year. If any one increases price of essentials, we must take legal action against him,” the mayor said.
Fazlur Rahman, Chairman of the City group said, “There is sufficient quantity of
commodities in stocks. So, there will be no price hike this year. We have given promise.”
The mayor presided over the meeting. Salahuddin Ahmed from S Alam group, Mostafa Haidar, Manging Director of TK group, Murtaja Hossain Munshi from Meghna group and Architect Iqbal Habib, among others, were present.
