Police administration on Thursday constructed wall to bar public from using of historical Paresh Sagor pond in the city on safety and security reason.
District police authority on Thursday started sealing work of the ghat blocking use of any bathing, fishing and washing activities in the pond. Humayun Kabir, Additional Superintendent of Police, said regularly the fish cultivated in the pond stolen. The pond situated by the side of district Police Line where armory of police forces situated. So police administration sealed the boundary of the pond for security reason.
On other hand, Akkas Hossain, senior citizen of the city and freedom fighter said, this historical pond aged over hundred years. It was excavated on around three acres of land to supply water for town dwellers and used for bathing and other purposes also.
Ranajit Dutta, president Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Barisal Unit, said this pond is the main source of water supply to extinguish flame during any fire accident.
