The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Associations (FBUTA) on Tuesday called off their on-going movement for removal of disparity in the 8th National Pay Scale, after the government accepted their demand.
ASM Maksud Kamal, Secretary General of FBUTA announced it in a press briefing on Tuesday noon after holding a general meeting with FBUTA members at the Dhaka University Club.
On March 24, the Cabinet Committee decided to promote 25 per cent teachers of the public universities to the Grade I of the 8th National Pay Scale.
The promotion will be given to those who have served at least 20 years in teaching profession, including five years as Professor.
While speaking on the programme, FBUTA President Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed thanked the Committee and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for meeting their major demand.
He, however, urged the Committee to consider their other demands for creating a super grade for the teachers, which will be equivalent to the status of a Senior Secretary.
Earlier on January 19, the FBUTA temporarily suspended their non-stop work abstention after the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina assured them to address its issues.
The public university teachers were protesting against the 8th National Pay Scale, demanding review of the new pay structure, retention of selection grade and time scale, and increasing salaries for a certain percentage of the university professors that is equal to that of senior secretaries.
