Public transport workers hit hard in Covid-19 : Taposh

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh on Monday said that public transport workers are the worst affected in the on-going Covid-19.
“Public transport workers, are hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic and they are being trampled in silence but we will stand beside them ,” he said. The mayor said this at a rice distribution function at Sayedabad bus terminal as a humanitarian aid among jobless road transport workers, said a press release.
“We have confirmed the allocation of 100 tons of food grains for them from the Prime Minister’s allocation and we will try to get fair share of all the allocations from the DSCC from now on,” he said.
Referring to the modernization of the Sayedabad bus terminal Taposh said, “how our workers will be there, how they will be relocated, how to ensure their facilities will come prominently in the new project.”
A total of 50 tons of rice has been distributed in Monday’s programme. Each transport worker has been provided with 10 kilogram of rice.
The remaining 50 tons of rice will be distributed among transport workers in Fulbaria and Gulistan.
Alhaj Kazi Monirul Islam Manu MP, General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan Road Transport Workers Union Kazi Selim Sarwar, DSCC Secretary Akramuzzaman, Regional Executive Officer, Zone-5, Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain Sarkar, among others were present on the occasion.
