Deplorable condition of roads: Public sufferings mount

The most of the roads of the second largest city of the country have been in dilapidated condition for long causing sufferings to the city dwellers beyond expectations.
The city dwellers are moving either on foot or by various modes of vehicles with very cautiously avoiding the any fatal incidents .
Most of the city roads turned into holes and without carpeting as well as the city corporation is undergoing road expansion works and the CWASA is digging the roads for installing the pipe lines during the month of Ramadan . The works of the road expansion and carpeting under city corporation going in snail pace in Bakalia area since long. A pedestrians told this correspondent that expansion work of KB Aman Ali road begins in last year and yet to be completed before the last Eid holidays.
 About half kilometer of KB Aman ali road still lying uncompleted . Bakalia dwellers are the worst sufferers of transportations due incompletion of road expansion and Chaktai Khal retaining wall construction works.
Besides, some portions of Shah Amnanat bridge road at Rahattarpol and Kalamiah Bazar crossings remained uncarpeted since long caused heavy traffic congestions. A sources of Halishahar resident told that about one kilometer road in front of Karnaphuli EPZ area totally damaged and unfit for vehicle movement.
On the other hand , the engineering Department of the city corporation are trying utmostly to repair the deteriorated roads but due to frequent rains and tidal water hampers their works plan.
The engineering deptt of the corporation yet to ascertain the accurate scenario of the total damages out of 800 kilometers road in city. Executive engineer of CCC Md. Abu Saleh told that 41 city ward divided into 5 divisions for repairing the roads and 40 to 50 workers were engaged in these repairing works.
 General Secretary of Inter- district Transport Trucks & Covered Vans Owners Association Din Mohammad told that due to holes and broken parts in the roads, the valuable parts of the costly transports are being damaged regularly and sometimes cargo trucks remained inoperative falling in the holes.
Vice President of Planned Chittagong Forum Engr. Subash Barua told the media that lack of better bitumen and low quality works , these roads are being damaged within short time .
He further said due to unplanned road development work lack of coordination between the service providing organizations, the sufferings of the city dwellers are increasing gradually.
