The International Public Service Day will be observed in the country as elsewhere across the globe today under the auspices of the United Nations.
This year’s theme of the day is: “Innovative efforts and people-oriented service to achieve sustainable development target”. The government has chalked out an elaborate programme to celebrate the International Public Service Day in a befitting manner through
displaying services before the public.
Besides, the ministry of industries and different institutions and departments also chalked out separate programmes marking the day. The programmes include selling suger at fair price and introducing two standard testing spots in the capital to conduct formalin test on seasonal fruits.
Meanwhile, President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon issued separate messages marking the day. In his message, the president asked the authorities concerned to ensure legitimate rights of people so that they could get hassle-free desired services in the quickest possible time. In this regard, he said, the civil servant has to work as a “servant” of the people, not as ruler.
Describing skilled civil service as the base of public administration, the President underlined the need for a skilled, dynamic and accountable public administration for smooth implementation of different people-oriented programmes of the government. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message said the present government is firm to create a dynamic, effective and skilled public administration to fulfill hopes and aspiration of the people of Bangladesh.
