Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam said as per the directives of the government, public representatives of the local government are working to check the spread of coronavirus.
“The Health Ministry is taking the lead in tackling coronavirus. The other ministries are working concertedly,” he said.
The LGRD Minister said this on Wednesday while talking to reporters after a meeting on ‘preparing a work plan to ease the city’s water logging’ held at the Secretariat here.He said the local public representatives have already been instructed to keep the returnees from abroad isolated and they are working as per the instruction.
About his ministry’s steps to tackle coronavirus, Tajul said the chairmen and members of Union Parishads and Upazila Parishads, and mayors and councilors of city corporations and municipalities were instructed to keep the returnees from abroad isolated.
He said the local public representatives are working to this end in coordination with the local administrations.
“The government is working in this regard. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is giving instructions round-the-clock. There is no reason to be panicked,” the LGRD minister said.
About the government’s preparation to prevent dengue outbreak in the upcoming monsoon, he said his ministry is working from its position and two Dhaka city corporations are also working to avoid such unexpected dengue situation that broke out in Dhaka last year.
Tajul said the two Dhaka city corporations have enough storage of mosquito killing medicines and they will strengthen their programmes to kill mosquito. He said the cleanliness works of the capital’s 26 canals out of 50 have already been completed, while initiatives were taken to clean up the remaining 24 canals.
