Public-private partnership to attain SDGs

A collaborative effort of both public and private sector will expedite attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, said Prime Minister’s Office Principal Coordinator of SDG Affairs M Abul Kalam Azad.
“Bangladesh can achieve SDGs by 2030 through joint efforts of the government, private sector, NGO and civil society,” he said while addressing as the chief guest a seminar on the “Strategies for business benefits from SDG for the private sector” at DCCI in the city, said a press release.
Former Adviser to the caretaker government and Executive Chairman, Power and Participation Centre (PPRC) Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman and Member (Senior Secretary), General Economic Division, Planning Commission Dr Shamsul Alam were present as special guests. DCCI President Abul Kasem Khan chaired the seminar.
Abul Kalam Azad said private sector would have to play a vital role to achieve success in attaining SDGs. The government has already done the mapping of ministries, gap analysis and set targets for SDGs, he added. He also said the government has adopted the 7th five year plan in line with SDGs.
Hossain Zillur Rahman urged the government to establish more high schools in the country in order to give quality education and create a knowledgeable-based society in future as it will ultimately give return a lot.
