Public lecture on poverty, disparity held at DU

A public lecture titled, ‘Poverty-Disparity-Inequality in Bangladesh: In Search of a Unified Political Economic Theory’, was held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the programme as the chief guest while President of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) Prof Dr Abul Barkat delivered the public lecture.
Eminent economist and Director of Dhaka School of Economics Prof Dr Kazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad presided over the programme while Khondakar Ibrahim Khaled and Dr M Moazzem Hossain Khan attended it as the designated discussants.
Organised by the BEA, the public lecture was attended by economists, researchers, university professors and students and various professionals of the society.
Speaking on the occasion, the DU vice-chancellor stressed the need for eradicating existing economic, social and other inequalities as well as disparities of the society through equal partnership of male and female.
He also underscored the importance of removing poverty by taking coordinated and comprehensive initiatives to ensure equality in the society.
“In order to make a corruption-free society, we need to remove corruption from our thoughts and we should build a positive mindset,” he added.
