PTD for limiting voice, internet packages

Against the backdrop of customers’ annoyance over the services of mobile phone operators, the posts and telecommunications division (PTD) has taken a move to stop anomalies in voice and internet packages.
The PDT has directed the regulator -Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to take necessary measures to stop “auto renewal” of any packages for voice and internet.
PDT Secretary Md Faizur Rahman Chowdhury on Sunday said they have taken some decisions through a meeting held recently with the state minister in the chair to protect the customers’ interest.
“We’ve directed to stop auto renewal of any packages regarding voice and internet to get rid of the customers from any financial losses,” he said.
“Finally, they (operators) have to take prior permission from the ministry to run any package,” said Faizur Rahman, adding, “At anyhow, we want to minimize customers’ sufferings.”
Meanwhile, the PTD has sent a letter to the BTRC asking to know details about the existing total number of packages regarding voice and internet being offering by the operators.
A PDT official said few days ago the letter has been forwarded to the BTRC that actually intending to set boundary to the package number.
He said the operators are offering huge number of packages that have been appeared as confusion and harassment for the customers.
After getting response from the regulator, the official said, the PDT would move to limit the package numbers.
Replying to a query regarding the letter, the PTD Secretary said: “We are yet to receive reply from the BTRC, but hope to get it soon.”
The PTD has wanted to know the total number of existing packages, unapproved packages, auto renewal packages and details of customers’ difficulties caused by those packages.
On the other hand, the BTRC is going to hold public auction on November 22 to hear the customers’ complaints and their sufferings.
