Staff Reporter :
The Primary Education Completion (PSC) and Ebtedayee examinations will start from November 20 across the country.
As many as 3,230,288 students are taking part this year compared with 3,254,515 last year showing a decrease of 24,266 candidates.
Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman Fizar said this at a press conference in the Secretariat on Thursday.
The Minister said, “The examinations will begin on November 20 and continue till November 27.
“There can be no reason behind a decrease in numbers,” the Minister said. When asked about a more precise cause, Fizar said, “There is no need for research. I think it is a matter of calculation, there is no other reason.”
“We compiled data after collecting these from various places. We got the data we wanted and that is what we presented here.” He said, “Last year there was a lot of misconduct due to question paper leak. So, this year the government has taken proper initiatives to prevent such incidents.”
“If anyone is found involved with question paper leak, then he or she will be gravely punished.”
“It could be that the birth rate has reduced that maybe something to be taken into account,” Mostafizur Rahman Fizar said.
“But actually the population is rising, demand is rising, so why do we have lesser candidates? We can assume that the management is more transparent, so may it be that some have applied for corrections. I feel that is the case here,” he added.
