The committee in its 12th meeting discussed the bill as part of its move to scrutinize and report back to parliament, said a JS press release.
Committee chairman Md Tajul Islam Chowdhury presided over the meeting while members commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Enamul Haq, Waresat Hossain Belal, A.K.M. Bahauddin, Md Sanwar Hossain, Md Manzurul Islam Liton and Laila Arzuman Banu attended it.
Senior secretary of the commerce ministry and other top officials of the ministry and the Jatiya Sangsad were present.
Recently, the Export Promotion Bureau Bill 2015 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad for continuing its activities under a legal framework to consolidate and expand the country’s export. Placing the bill, commerce minister Tofail Ahmed said the EPB was abolished with the passage of the fifteenth amendment to the constitution, but its activities were continuing after promulgation of an ordinance by the president on January 21, 2013 as the parliament was not in session.
