DU Correspondent :
The leftwing Progressive Students’ Alliance (PSA) of Dhaka University on Thursday demonstrated on the campus demanding proper investigation into the death of Hafizur Mollah, a university student, who died on February 2.
He was the residential student of Salimullah Muslim Hall.
The protesting students carried a banner with
slogan ‘Stop students’ harassments at guestroom and ensure their security’.
The alliance leaders later held a rally at the Aparajeya Bangla and said, the leaders of a powerful student organisation enforce the first year students to attend their processions against their will, regardless of their physical or mental illness. Ailing Hafiz was forced to do the same and he fell ill from which he could not recover.
The PSA leaders claimed that Hafiz’s death was no way a natural death. It should be investigated. They regretted at the DU administration’s failure to ensure security of the university students. In case of their failure, they should resign.
While speaking, the student leaders demanded DUCSU and Hall Union elections for creating democratic environment.
As Hafizur like other newly admitted students of the hall passed the whole night on the hall’s corridor, he was exposed to winter air and was attacked with pneumonia, alleged the hall inmates.
Friends and family members of Hafizur said that BCL leaders of SM Hall forced him along with other first year students to stay for about an hour at night under the sky, which affected Hafizur’s health badly.
As his condition deteriorated, Hafizur left the hall for his home at Faridpur. He died on February 2 when his parents were shifting him to Dhaka for better treatment.
