A primary school girl of class v was killed on the spot when a speedy pick up hit her while she was walking on the road beside her home at Hizlakandi village under Matlab Uttar Upazila on Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Mukta Akter, 12, a fifth grader in the local Hizlakandi Government Primary school and daughter of Mohammad Mokhter Ahmad of the same village. Soon after the accident, the seriously injured girl was rescued and rushed to the local Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared that the girl had succumbed to her injuries on the way. The angry mob intercepted and detained the pick up van and caught hold of the driver while he was trying to flee. His name is Rubel Howlader,34, hails from Didarullah village under Daulatullah Upazila of Barishal district.
Contacted, Matlab Uttar Thana OC Md Mizanur Rahman has told this correspondent that the pick up was seized and the driver was arrested and today, Tuesday, he was sent to the court that sent him to jail hazot. The girl’s body was sent to Chandpur General Hospital on Tuesday morning for post mortem. A case was filed on Monday night in this connection.
