Imparting education in 184 primary schools in the district is being hampered due to ramshackle condition of the schools.
According to a sources, 184 primary schools in all the seven upazilas of the district are in bade shape caused hampering atmosphere of teaching. Sources said, of the dilapidated schools 50 in Jamalpur sadar upazila, 22 in Sarishabari upazila, 51 in Islampur upazila, 24 in Madarganj upazila, 19 in Dewanganj upazila, 17 in Bakshiganj upazila and 1 in Melandah upazila.
Due to ramshackle condition concerned authority has abandoned those school buildings. Lack of class rooms students are taking lesson in field under open sky flouting scorching sun light. But during rain teaching in the schools became troublesome. Some of the schools are taking classes in adjacent madrasa and schools.
Due to dilapidated school building innocent students became despaired.
Jwel Rana, a student of class five of Sultankhali Government primary school at Durmut village in Melandah upazila of the district said, we want to take lesson in class room not in field. He said, some students in our village read in well decorated kindergarten but being a government school we are deprived. Demanding reconstruction of the school, students MA Syeed, Rakibul Islam and Nurul Islam also expressed the same opinion about the school.
Headmaster of the primary school Md Hafizur Rahman said, Sultankhali primary school was set up in 1976. Subsequently a building of the school was constructed in 1993 but regrettably after 15 years the school building was declared abandon as the roof, vim and plaster started broke down, he said. Since declared the school building abandoned in 2008 we were taking classes in the risky building.
