UNB, Dhaka :
Primary school assistant teachers observed four-hour work abstention from 9 am to 1 pm for the second consecutive day on Monday across the country to press home their six-point
demand, including removal of discrimination in the 8th National Pay Scale.
Visiting different schools, leaders of Primary Assistant Teacher Federation, a platform of four associations of primary school assistant teachers, said their movement will continue until their demands are fulfilled, said a press release.
They also threatened to observe full day work abstention from October 10 to 14 and token hunger strike on October 15 unless any logical announcement comes from the government over fulfillment of their demands by this time.
Leaders of the federation-affiliated associations, including Jahidur Rahman Biswas, Nasrin Sultana, Jasim Uddin and Shahinur Al Amin urged all assistant teachers to observe the ongoing programme.
Among the demands are re-fixing their salary at the 11th grade (Tk 12,500) in the 8th pay scale, stopping direct appointment to headmaster posts and making graduation degree as minimum academic qualification for primary school teachers irrespective of men and women.
