Like some people have access to all basic human needs and have fulfilled them. But there are about 35% of people who don’t even have access to the main five basic needs. It is tragic. Bangladesh is still striving for the five main basic needs-food, shelter, clothes, healthcare and education.
Here are some facts about our country. According to a survey, child malnutrition is 48%; 26% of the population are on the poverty line; 120,000 neonates die every year.
Bangladesh is a developing country with a government but, they need to pay more attention on the citizens’ lives.
Unfortunately, most of the people in the government care about politics because they want to make money for their own pockets and why? To fulfill all their basic needs and have a happy life of course.
In the past the government used to make some promises and have tried their best to achieve them. I say they have tried, but not at their best. If they concentrate a bit more and help the people, Bangladesh will move from a developing country to a developed country. How good would that be?
So, I urge you all to support the community because there are more than a million of people in Bangladesh who need support from external end(s) and the fact is, the government can’t handle everything on it’s own. So I think we all should put in a small part to it as well. Everything needs small bits of things to make something big. Taking action is a good thing to do, but you are also to take responsibilities to do things.
As an individual, the responsibilities would be not to waste food, conserve electricity, donate unused or extra clothing, teach support staff basic education etc. As a society, our responsibilities can be to build some homes and schools near our neighbourhood, employ people and many more.
Now, the responsibilities of the government should be to create more jobs so that people get income, establish medical systems and make medicine affordable, and to make sure everyone has sanitation, electricity and gas, improve the transport system and make education free for all. People can offer some help globally.
On the other hand, don’t you think some organizations should be assisting Bangladesh? Well, there are some organizations that help people who are struggling to get their basic rights. Such organisations are BRAC, WHO, UN, Save the Children, FAO etc. So, we do get additional external help. As I said if we all cooperate, this country will be one of the developed countries in the world.
Let me share a small trip I took which also convinced me to help people everywhere. I went with my friends to a slum in Notun Bazaar. It was a beautiful but also emotional experience. We met a lot of young children and they were so innocent. They studied in a school which was just a congested dark room with not enough light, ventilation or space to move. There only stood a blackboard and book in the corner.
We saw where they lived and their houses were just made of tin and only had one bed for 5 to 6 members. It was interesting but, as I said, emotional. When we were leaving, the children ran near to us and kept waving and smiling.
This is the main subject for me to start helping people. My goal is to make everyone in this country be equal with the same amount of basic needs and for all of them to have a happy living. May you all contribute for a successful future!
