Provide free treatment to FFs: NHRC Chairman

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairman Kazi Riazul Haq has urged the government to take necessary steps so that the freedom fighters could avail the free treatment facilities at all hospitals with dignity.
“We urge the authorities concerned to set up separate counter at all hospitals across the country also,” he told a discussion on Saturday organized by Muktijouddha Foundation (MF) marking Independence Day at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) here.
Referring to different demands of the freedom fighters, the NHRC chairman urged the government to raise facilities for the freedom fighters and their inherits.
Haq, also a veteran freedom fighter, urged all freedom fighters and pro-liberation senior citizens to project the real history of the country through various programmes before the people.
“Let the new generation know the real history of the country and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he added.
He lauded the different steps undertaken by the government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to establish the rights of freedom fighters and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of country and its people during the country’s great Liberation War in 1971.
He also expressed grave concern as many government’s decisions are yet to execute due to the bureaucratic complexities.
The NHRC chairman also demanded for ensuring 30 percent quota for the freedom fighters’ inherits in the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) cadre services and other sectors.
MF President and subsector commander Principal Gazi Delwar Hossain chaired the meeting.
Freedom fighters -MF vice-president, Lion and Agriculturist M Shahidul Islam, Agriculturist M Nazrul Islam, Gazi Siraj, Basir Ahmed and Faijul Haque Nantu, MF general secretary Nazrul Islam Babul, joint general secretary Dr SMA Zafor and publicity secretary M Sahidul Islam Rana, among others, spoke.
