A number of student organisations and alliances that contested the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election are demonstrating on the campus demanding fresh polls.
The first Ducsu election in 28 years was marred by allegations of irregularities.
Supporters of Bangladesh Chhatra League candidate Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon have rejected results of the vice-president post where he was defeated by quota reform movement leader Nurul Haq Nur.
Shovon’s followers have been demonstrating in front of the vice-chancellor’s residence since Tuesday morning.
BCL leader Noyon Hawlader, a supporter of Shovon, claimed Nur is a member of Islami Chhatra Shibir and alleged that there had been irregularities in the polls.
“We want re-election,” he told the UNB. All panels, except the BCL, announced polls boycott alleging irregularities on Monday. But it is unclear whether Nur will take over as VP of theDU student body.
Classes remained suspended at DU on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, activists of BNP student front Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal are demonstrating in front of the Aparajeyo Bangla demanding reelection, while the leftist panel is protesting in TSC area.
