RU Prof murder: Protests enter 5th consecutive day

The teachers and the students of Rajshahi University continued their demonstrations for the fifth consecutive day demanding punishment to the killers of Prof AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee.
Thousands of students under the banner of “General Students” brought out a procession on campus and joined a brief rally held at Tukitaki Chattar around 10:15am.
At the same time, about 500 teachers and students of RU English department staged a human chain in front of the senate building, protesting the brutal killing of their teacher. Thereafter, they joined the general students and blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway for half an hour from 10:45am to press home their demands. A protest rally will be held today (Thursday) on the university Paris Road, said the speakers.
Though RU Teachers Association cancelled class boycotting programme, after Monday, the students continued their classes boycotting programme demanding fair investigation into their teacher’s killing. They vowed to continue protest programme until a visible progress was noticed. Besides, the students of Computer Science and Engineering department and the Folklore department and the Accounting and Information System department also organized human chains on the campus separately. The students of marketing department also blocked Dhaka-Rajshahi highway for the second time for 20 minutes from 11:45am to 12:05pm. Prof Siddiquee, a teacher of RU English department, was brutally murdered in Rajshahi’s Shalbagan area on Saturday morning by some unidentified miscreants.
Following the murder, protests from teachers and students of the university sparked on campus.
