Tonu murder: Protests continues to arrest culprit

Protests over the killing of Comilla Victoria College Student Sohagi Jahan Tonu continued to build across the country as students at different educational institutions on Wednesday staged demonstrations demanding the arrest of the killers.
In Comilla, Victoria College Tonu Mancha staged daylong protests while Victoria College Theatre arranged a milad for the salvation of the departed soul. A human chain was formed by some students of Comilla Victoria College on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Miabazar of Chouddogram upazila.
Hundreds of students of other educational institutions, including Miabazar Degree College, Miabazar Latifunnesa High School, Miabazar Girls’ School, and activists of cultural and social organisations joined the human chain in solidarity with the demand for justice over Tonu murder.
Meanwhile, around 12 pm, teachers and students of Gazipur Khan High School and College formed a human chain on Gouripur-Homna road at Gazipur bus station in Titas upazila. Students of Abdul Matin Khashru Women’s College and Brahmanpara Ocean High School formed another human chain in front of Abdul Matin Khashru Women’s College in Brahmanpara upazila.
In Bagerhat, district unit Students Union formed a human chain at the Central Shaheed Minar premises at noon demanding arrest of Tanu’s killers. In Shrimangal, students of Shrimangal Gov College formed a human chain in front of their college around 11am with the same demand.
Sohagi Jahan Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, went missing on March 20, hours after she had gone out of her house at Comilla Mynamati Cantonment for private tuition.
Later, Tonu’s father, Yar Hossain, found his daughter lying senseless with severe injuries in her body in a bush adjacent to their house. She was then whisked off to Combined Military Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
