Thousands of supporters of Bangladesh Anjumane Talamije Islamia held a demonstration in Sylhet city on Wednesday protesting over disparaging comments made by an official of India’s ruling party about the Prophet Muhammad (Sm).
They brought out the protest rally from Sobhanighat Hazi Nawab Ali Jame Masjit and marched towards key city roads.
Later, the protesters held a mass meeting at the Court Point in Sylhet city.
In the meeting speakers voiced condemnation of
the remarks on Prophet Muhammad (Sm) made last week by Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal, two members of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Secretary General of Bangladesh Anjumane Talamije Islamia Principal Moulana AKM Monwar Ali spoke at the protest rally as chief guest, while the Organization’s Central president Dulal Ahmed also spoke.
