A human chain and protest rally has been held in Barishal to protest against the terrorist attack on Alam Raihan, a senior journalist and editor of Barisal local daily Dakhiner somoy.
The event was organized by the Barishal Committee to Prevent Torture of Journalists on Tuesday (October 5) at 11am at the city’s Town Hall premises. Speakers at the protest rally, chaired by the organisation’s president Masud Rana and conducted by general secretary Arif Hossain. protested that,Immediately all the attackers were brought under the law and demanded exemplary punishment.
At the same time, it has been decided to issue memoranda from every upazila of the country along with the Prime Minister demanding enactment of the Journalist Torture Act on October 17.
Bangladesh Mofsbol Journalists Forum General Secretary and Coordinator of Bangladesh Journalists Torture Prevention Committee Ahmed Abu Zafar said this while addressing the gathering as the keynote speaker. It may be mentioned that a group of terrorists entered his newspaper office at around 6 pm on September 2 and beat and hacked him at random and inflicted bloody wounds on him. The incident caused extreme anger among the journalists of Barishal.
