A widow’s house was attacked and locals formed a human-chain protesting against the beating and humiliation of the woman.
It is alleged that Man trader Sohag and his accomlices caused the incident. The program was held on Gafargaon Kandipara Road in front of Hatpara Badal Market in Hatpara village on Friday morning.
An hour-long human -chain , several hundreds villagers took part in human -chain from 11 am to 12 pm. During the human -chain, Union Juba Leaguse president Mahabul Alam Masud, Usthi Sechhasebok League Convenor – Ferdos Ali Master, joint-convenor-Sheikh Ajijul Islam, local UP Member-Sabuj Sarker, businessman- Abdul Qayyum and mother-in-law-Ayesha Begum delivered their speeches on the human-chain.
According to the victim’s family, Shahanaj Begum (40), the wife of Saudia expatriate village Hatpara, died in an accident in Saudia Arabia and got Tk.-4 lakh as a compensation for her husband.
Sohag, man trader from the same village, took the money in various ways. Shahnaj Begum approached local dignitaries, including the local union council to get refund. There were several arbitration meetings.
As a result, three or four other armed men, including Sohag, stormed the house of widow Shahanaj Begum at around 1 am on Wednesday, picked her up from her house randomly beat her on the street and humiliated her on the street near Hatpara Badal Market.
On Thursday morning , locals rescued Shahnaj Beggum and admitted her to the Upazil;a Health complex.
Pagla Police Station OC Mohammad Shahinuzzaman Khan said a case has been registered in this regard and efforts are being made to arrest the accused.
