Progressive Students Alliance (PSA), an alliance of the left-leaning student organisations, has announced to stage demonstrations in all the educational institutions across the country today (Wednesday), protesting attacks on students seeking safe roads.
Golam Mostafa, coordinator of the alliance, came up with the announcement while speaking at a press conference, held at Madhur Canteen on the Dhaka University campus in the afternoon on Tuesday.
They also placed a five-point demand. They are: immediate release of Drik Gallery Managing Director Shahidul Alam, free the students detained during their agitation programme, take effective measures for ensuring safe roads, arrest and punish those involved in the attacks on students, and provide training to drivers and other transport staff.
President of Bangladesh Chhatra Union GM Jilani Shuvo, General Secretary of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Nasir Uddin Prince and General Secretary of Biplobi Chhatra Moytri Dilip Roy, among others, were present at the press conference.
Around 200 students of Dhaka University under the banner of ‘Students Against Repression’ brought out a procession on the campus protesting the attacks on the students.
The procession paraded different roads of the campus and then ended at the Raju Memorial Monument.
Meanwhile, the three arrested students of Dhaka University were released on Tuesday who were handed over to police after beating by Bangladesh Chhatra League Fazlul Haque Hall unit activists on Monday night on allegation of spread rumors on Facebook.
General students and the activists of left-leaning student organizations demonstrated in front of the university’s proctor’s office protesting the students’ harassment.
