Different rights bodies, socio-cultural organizations and political parties have protested the gang-rape of the indigenous girl inside a microbus in the capital’s Kuril area on Thursday night.
A three-member committee led by Sheikh Najmul Alam, Deputy Commissioner (Detective Branch) has been formed to investigate the gang-rape in the microbus.
Others members of the committee are Mahbub Hossain, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Assistant Commissioner Obaidul Haque.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary standing committee on home ministry has asked the government to nab the culprits involved in the gang-rape of a Garo girl in a microbus.
The observations were made on Sunday at the parliament building during a meeting of the committee.
Later, the committee’s Chairman Tipu Munshi told journalists that the committee discussed the gang-rape of the Garo girl in some detail.
He said the home ministry had been asked to instruct police for tough action against rapists.
The lawmakers also claimed that police detained a man in this connection.
The identity of the detained man could not be known immediately.
On the other hand, Women and Children affairs state minister MeherAfroz Chumki yesterday demanded the exemplary punishment of the rapists, while visiting the Dhaka Medical cCllege and Hospital.
She said that the arrest of criminals will be easy after verifying the footage of CCTV installed in the area.
Besides this, Bangladesh Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party, Jamaat-e Islami, Jatiya Samajtantik Dal and others political parties protested the rape incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
Bangladesh Indigenous Women Forum, Pahari Chhatra Parisad, Sammilitita Sangskritik Jote, Bangladesh Adibasi Union, Bangladesh Chhatra Union also protested the rape incident.
DMP’s Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan Zone) Khandoker Lutful Kabir said that policed were trying to trace the culprit by tracking down his cellular phone and other ways.
Police are investigating the incident, the police official said.
Meanwhile, another woman was gang-raped in a truck in Teliupapara area of Gazipur district. The victim has been admitted to Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital. Hailed from Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur district, said Khandakar Rezaul Hasan, OC of Joydevpur Police Station.
