Protection of law imperative to ensure the human rights of citizens

Right to Peace (R2P), a voluntary and research-based organization and another local organization of Cumilla, Nirman Kori Swadesh (NIKOSH) have jointly organised a public awareness program on legal aid at Payalgacha, Barura, Cumilla. The organizers have also distributed clothes among the local disadvantaged group. ‘Be Forward Bangladesh’ was the logistic support partner of this event.
Dr. Saber Ahmed Chowdhury, Associate Professor, Department of Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Dhaka chaired the program. Dr. Zoha Rahman, Founder, Center for Big Data and Machine Learning, and adjunct faculty of BRAC University was present as the chief guest, says a press release.
In his speech the chair said, “Every citizen has the right to get protection of law. The legal aid service of the Government of Bangladesh is a great initiative in ensuring the rights of distressed people. A large number of people already have been benefitted from this service.”
In her speech, the chief guest applauded this initiative of ‘R2P’ and ‘NIKOSH’. She also called upon other voluntary organizations of the country to work for upholding the rights of citizens.
The Head of Branding, Niloy Haq and the Head of Media and Communication Fairuz Humaira Fabiha from R2P have delivered a presentation on legal aid awareness in the event. In this program, General Secretary Md. Tausif Islam Sanjid, Volunteer Nur Abdullah, Project Executive Naima Jinat and, Head of Youth Engagement Md. Nayeem represented R2P. From ‘NIKOSH’, General Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun, Treasurer Mr. Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain and Member Mahmudul Hasan Tanim were present in this event. Among the volunteers of NIKOSH, Shahadat Hossain, Saif Ibn Shahid, Shihab Chowdhury, Shamin Chowdhury and Anik Chandra Das were present.
The event was coordinated by the President of R2P, Md. Zarif Rahman. The program was anchored by the Head of Workshop and Training of R2P, S. M. Monjurul Morshed Moon. Shahid Ullah and Md. Mehedi Hasan were responsible for technical support of the event.
