Protection of ethnic minorities’ cultural heritage underscored

Speakers at a discussion opined that there should be effective and adequate measures for protecting the handicrafts and cultural heritage of the ethnic minorities from further diminishing.
They also observed that all quarters should take the responsibility to protect the cultural heritage of the plain ethnic communities as their heritage, resource are integral part of the society.
They said this on Friday while addressing the opening session of a three-day ethnic minority handicrafts and cultural fair at green plaza of Rajshahi City Corporation.
Rajshahi Divisional Ethnic Community Cultural Academy organised the fair.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman and Deputy Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif addressed the session as chief and special guests respectively with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Salahuddin in the chair.
Ethnic minority leaders Prof Jogendranath Soren, Gabriel Hasda and Chitta Ranjan also spoke.
Nur-Ur-Rahman viewed that cultural practices and other ancestral entertainment of the ethnic communities are gradually diminishing due to various reasons and called for protecting the cultural heritage from further degradation.
He says the present government is very positive and cautious to uphold the dignity. The country is now being widely adjudged as a unique example of communal harmony as people of all religions live with equal rights alongside peace and tranquility.
Bangladesh is an instance of communal harmony as people of all the religions have been celebrating their respective religious and cultural festivals freely for long.
